From Mrs Macquaries Chair, we walked around Farm Cove to the Opera House – a really pretty walk with the harbour on one side and the Botanical Gardens on the other.
We were soon comfortably installed at the Opera Bar, waiting for the Vivid Festival light show to begin on the sails of the Opera House.
Near my left ear, your can see the lighted gate of Luna Park and its Ferris Wheel, on the northern side of the harbour.
Night fell.
At 6pm the lights came on.
We were so lucky that this was the second day of the Sydney Vivid Festival.
The most visible aspect of Vivid Sydney is this lighting of the Opera House sails with 3D projections by French designer collective Superbien.
The 2011 Vivid festival also includes a range of artistic collaborations, public talks and debates from leading creative thinkers from Australia and around the world, celebrating Sydney as the creative hub of the Asia Pacific region.
This was a spectacular setting to sit back and enjoy the show. Here are some more pictures of the lights on the Opera House sails:
There were other lighting installations in this festival as well. From where we were sitting, we could see the lights of Circular Quay. All the lights which are red in this picture would change together through a series of other colours. Spectacular!
Jan, a fabulous collection of photos. Love you and your daughter drinking champagne in that iconic spot, and the light show was fantastic.
