Our first stop in the Napa Valley was Domaine Chandon – home of sparkling wine! Moët & Chandon have a 250 year legacy of producing champagne in France. The company has been growing grapes in California for 30 years now.

The deal here was that you paid for a selected tasting, and were given quite a generous “taste”. Paid paid $US18 for the “varietal” tasting of one chardonnay and two pinots. I paid $US22 for four sparkling wines. Through an error (which I failed to rectify), I was actually given five half-glasses of sparkling.
I think by now I’m up to the fifth half glass.

Domaine Chandon products for sale. Luckily we didn’t buy any, as Pat and Laura found some on special in a supermarket the next day for $US13 each. Also, they found some $US2 cooking wine which Laura bought for Sunday night’s risotto, and which Pat liked so much to drink he’s planning to go and buy some more.
Stretch-stretch limo waiting for guests at Domaine Chandon.
I saw more limos – some extra long like this one – in one day in the Napa Valley than I had in my entire life up to this point.
Three people I love leaving Domaine Chandon.
