While visiting Fisherman’s Wharf, we took an hour’s bay cruise, past Alcatraz, along beside the city, under the Golden Gate Bridge and back again, around the other side of Alcatraz.
Approaching the GG Bridge.
When the cruise began, everyone was sitting close to the edge of the boat. At certain points of the trip, people rapidly moved away from the edge.
While I realise I look particularly dorky with my jacket tightly fastened, at least I completed the trip dry and not sunburnt (except for my nose).
Unlike Pat, who by the end of the day was as red as a beetroot.
Getting closer.
There were lots of cormorants under the bridge. We wondered if people driving over the bridge threw their lunch out their windows. Arend told us that people in San Francisco don’t throw their rubbish anywhere except into rubbish bins.
Closer still.
Almost under the bridge.
Right under the bridge.
Just past under the bridge. See the shadow on the water.
Shadow of the bridge on the water, with Alcatraz in the background.
I became very excited about the shadow of the bridge in the water. In the background, to the left of the bridge, you can just see the TV antenna the Sutro Tower (the alien) near where Laura and Arend live.
View of the bridge on the way back.
Sailing back past Downtown San Francisco. You can see how steeply the streets rise from the water line.
Passing around the other side of Alcatraz, with the Golden Gate in the background.
This was an excellent cruise!
