Camino 8: Rest Day!

Saturday, 12th October, 2019.

"The Lord is king, let earth rejoice,
the many coastlands be glad.
Cloud and darkness are his raiment;
his throne, justice and right."

From Psalm 96, the psalm of the day, from Fr Michael's daily reflection.

The joy of not having to pack up and be at breakfast early, ready for another day of tramping.  I made breakfast by 9.30am, very happily.
With more time today, Michael incorporated the sacrament of reconciliation into our 11am Mass, in the beautiful little chapel in the grounds of our magnificent Pazo de Brandeso Hotel.  Our group has really consolidated into a family making this journey together.  The sign of peace lasted for ages, with everyone hugging everyone else, knowing that we are all walking together.

In the afternoon, Michael offered a conversation on how Catholics regard the scriptures.  In a non-threatening environment, he involved everyone in the group, with some very varied viewpoints expressed.

Before dinner, the owner of the Pazo de Brandeso came and gave us a talk about this magnificent building.  It had been built and owned by his family in 1620, 40 years after the chapel.  At one stage, it was bought by someone else, but the present owner bought it back.  He told us that the lady who owned it at the time told him that Julio Iglesias was interested in buying it. (He must have come up with a better offer).  He and his wife live here, and have employed a catering company to run the hotel side of the business.

A portrait of the owner's mother on one of the salon walls, painted in 1949.

Paella for dinner that night.

Our NZ pilgrims sang a Maori grace.

That night, I could see the full moon through my skylight.  This is a picture of me trying to take a picture of the moon, although you see more of the reflection of me in the glass than of the moon.  The next morning, I was woken by the sound of rain on the skylight.  Oh well, wet weather gear out.
