Osaka to Hiroshima.

Wednesday, 2nd April, 2014.

Time to leave our beloved Tomato Hostel.  (The girls may not agree with this description.)

Carol has worked out how to convert our three beds into a chair.  Chairs are a western concept that the Japanese have not entirely embraced.  Consequently they are much more supple and graceful than we are, especially at getting up off the floor.  My standard method is to roll over onto all fours and haul myself up that way.

On the way to the station, we took time to delight in the English names given to various Japanese products, such as “Hello!” tissues.  We thought that “Earnest” was a wonderful name for toilet paper.

The name of our local subway station was Nishinakajima-Minamigata.  Probably the longest name of any station in Osaka and possibly the world outside Wales, and quite tricky when asking for directions.

Nevertheless, we successfully negotiated ourselves to Shin Osaka station, where we caught a shinkansen (bullet train) for Hiroshima, arriving in the afternoon.
