Doha to Damascus 11.05.2010

A_Doha airport

The exotic places you can fly to from Doha -  Cairo, Istanbul, Muscat, Imam Khomaini (wherever that may be) and of course Damascus.  Has a different ring from Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne….

Seen as we took off from Doha.  Not sure what it is, but it looks like a development that begins with palm trees.

A_Red tanks

Landing in Damascus.  Red seems to be the colour for tanks.

A_View

View from our hotel room in the afternoon sun.

A_View_2

I couldn’t get enough of this view.

The main streets going up the mountain looked really steep.

Even the box in the bathroom for the shampoo etc looked exotic.

A_View_3

View from the terrace of our hotel.  Yes, that’s right – the purple ones are jacarandas.

A_Pool

Night view over the pool from the terrace.  Pat knows how to pick his hotels!

A_gift shop

Even by walking past the hotel gift shop, you could tell we were in Damascus.

Then, we were lucky enough to see some Turkish dancers rehearsing for a function.

Looks like a very dangerous dance (but that is not a severed hand to the left).
