Because Pat and I were going to visit Damascus, in Syria, Dan had invited his Syrian friend Elias along to tell us about his country. Also in the party were Hadi, another Syrian, who had just moved to Doha after working at the Four Seasons Hotel in Damascus, and Abdullah, a Qatari friend.
Dan does a lot of walking in Doha (probably the only person in the entire city who does) and had decided that we would walk from his apartment to La Cigale. However, we weren’t up to his pace, as after walking for about an hour, Dan decided we weren’t going to make it, and hailed a taxi for the remainder of the journey.
