Hanami (literally "flower viewing") is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the short-lived beauty of flowers, almost always meaning cherry blossoms.
With the help of a young Japanese girl called Maya, we celebrated our own hanami in the grounds of Osaka Castle (along with a lot of other people.)
Although the Osaka cherry blossom season didn’t officially open for another two days, people were celebrating hanami with friends, family, and company co-workers by having a picnic under the trees. People will go and mind places with blue tarps, often in shifts, for hours or even days before.
