Momo-no-ie is a small Japanese-style house which is used for various permaculture courses and activities for adults and children.
Naturally, there are herbs and other plants growing around the front door.
The building was surrounded by a narrow but delightful garden – of course.
There was a pond …..
….. a red camellia …..
….. and even a cherry-blossom tree.
There was a store of kimonos which had been donated to raise money for Momo – so we had first pick.
Shiho was cooking dinner for us, and also supper for the people who were coming to the evening talk, so she took a break and came in to supervise our kimono choices.
Shiho in the kitchen.
Yo helping Carol prepare for her talk.
Eri, the translator, helped to set up dinner as well.
There were three other short talks before Carol’s and Eri translated them for us simultaneously as the presenters were speaking. Amazing.
Dinner is served!
The floor is a long way down.
Shiho explained the different dishes to us. All of the vegetarian ingredients had been locally and sustainably produced, and included some greens from the garden which Shiho called “weeds”. Nevertheless, everything tasted delicious.
After a 3.5 hour drive from Miyama-cho, Chisa (at the end of the table) arrived just in time, and we all enjoyed this wonderful dinner together.
