On arriving in Hiroshima, we took a streetcar and found our accommodation for the next two nights, the Chizuru Ryokan, without any trouble.
So far, our accommodation in Japan has gone from the sublime (Nikko Osaka Airport Hotel) to the ridiculous (Tomato Hostel) to the perfect (Chizuru Ryokan).
We were welcomed with Japanese tea and cake, brought up to our room.
Our room was very spacious, with tatami mats on the floor, and our beds were neatly made up for us.
Each bed had a small rice pillow, neatly presented in one end of a standard pillow case.
I was a bit worried about this, as I have specific requirements in a pillow, but I found it extremely comfortable and we all slept very well here.
Straw baskets on the floor contained neatly-folded towels and a yakata each.
Here are two little maids in their yakatas. The third little maid is lying on the floor taking the picture.

The windows were all discreetly screened and curtained, so it was quite a feat to look out the window to see what the day was going to be like.
Whenever we arrived at accommodation, our belongings seemed to explode out of our bags into a big mess, as there was never anywhere to put anything except onto the floor. It was always a source of amazement that we managed to fit everything back in when it was time to leave.
However, if we ever lost anything, it was usually easy to find, as there wasn’t far for it to go.

Our diminutive hostess was always on the ball, popping out to see us whenever we came or went. One night when we came home in the rain, she was there to meet us with towels, whisking away our wet coats and returning them in the morning, nicely dry. Her husband always popped out whenever there was any luggage to be carried.
Our hostess even insisted on taking this photo of us with her husband before we left, after an absolutely delightful stay.
