Earthgarden – we have arrived!
Chisa’s property, Earthgarden, is a delightful house and garden in the picturesque area of Miyama-cho.
Chisa’s garden has been developed along permaculture principles, and she lives a very environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
Chisa translated Carol’s book A Children’s Food Forest into Japanese, and they have been firm friends ever since.
Carol and I became very accomplished at lighting this kerosene heater.
Chisa’s chairs wore socks.
Chisa’s accommodation for us consisted of a single room with a western-style bed and a Japanese tatami floor room. We drew straws for the bed and Frances won. Frances’ room included the soba-husk pillow, which Frances found yet another unique Japanese experience.
Carol and I shared the beautiful tatami room with rice pillows, which we’d become quite fond of by now.
As it was spring, Chisa’s garden was in full bloom:
Chisa’s pond.
