Bordeaux 1: Here we are!

Saturday 8th February 2020.

White Knight Stuart (complete with beams of light from above) carries both suitcases down the several sets of stairs we had to negotiate to get to Montparnasse station to catch our train to Bordeaux.  After a very smooth and rapid trip of just under three hours, we were there.

Spring in Bordeaux?

While a few daffodils and crocuses were bravely emerging, it was still quite cold.  And why were there so many police around?

Our apartment was in the "old city".  Pretty impressive front gate, huh?

But if you look carefully at the left hand side of the gate, you will see that there are riot police there, complete with shields?  What is about to happen?

We made it safely inside the gate (which is quite lovely to look back on)  and found our apartment.  This square is called Place de Palais, as the palace of Eleanor of Aquitaine was once here, but all that remains is the very fancy gate.

Our apartment is in this street, Passage des Argentiers, which runs off Rue des Argentiers, which runs off the square.  We have arrived!

P.S.  Our host Nathalie told us that there were so many police about because Saturday is the day the Yellow Vest protesters are active.  However, the last two Saturdays have been very quiet.  We were happy not to have seen any action.
