6th – 9th August, 2013.
So here we were, off to a new country!
After the excitement of the wedding, we gave ourselves a few days of R&R (Rest and Recovery) before beginning our Alaskan cruise.
Flying from San Francisco to Vancouver, we caught glimpses of snow-capped mountains:
Vancouver is very accessible from its airport. We simply caught a train and walked to our hotel.
Laura sent us a view from their hotel on Waikiki Beach, full of ocean and palm trees. I sent them this view from our hotel.
Here was the view at night, looking the other way.
Our hotel held a very civilised complimentary wine tasting hour every evening. They only featured two different wines each day, but they didn’t mind how much of them you tasted!
In this way, we met and socialised with other guests in the hotel, including an English couple who had been on a cruise similar to ours, and a Spanish couple who were going on our cruise. We met up with them several times while cruising.
Our hotel was near the waterfront. We took a ferry to Granville Island, and visited the Public Markets, a feast for all the senses.
Enormous shiny cherries (yes, yellow ones as well).
Regular grapes and miniature grapes (well, I think that’s what they were.)
Raspberry tarts!
Cinnamon records.
Pot pies with pastry so light they almost floated away (yes, we had one).
Pat at Granville Island Public Market.
Our view while eating pot pies and gelato.
Some of the most delicate and delicious samosas I’ve ever tried. (Yes, we did seem to do a lot of eating in Vancouver.)
