Plan A was that we would hire bikes from Fisherman’s Wharf, ride across the bridge to Sausalito and bring our bikes back on the ferry.
As it happened, one of the bike/pedestrian lanes on the bridge was closed, so there was such a crush of bike riders and pedestrians going both ways, it was barely possible to ride. Laura was afraid we wouldn’t make the ferry back in time to go to the symphony orchestra that night, so we just went out a bit of the way onto the bridge, admired the view and came back again.
Setting out, with Alcatraz in the background.
There’s the bridge, through the fog.
It was a Saturday, so lots of people were out enjoying the fresh air and the fog.
We had lunch at the bottom of the bridge.
There it is!
Over there as well.
Just can’t wait to get onto that bridge.
Didn’t realise it was quite so curvy.
Long shot.
It was us and lots of other people, walking and riding both ways.
View over the edge.
Yes, there were people actually surfing (in helmets) in the icy water.
View back to the city.
The dome in the centre is the Palace of Fine Arts, which we visited on our way back.
This is far enough. (Laura is a bit naughty.)
So we turned around and came back again.
