Dan’s friend Elias, and his friend Hadi, who are both Syrian, had given us some wonderful advice before we went to Syria, and Elias kindly invited us to afternoon tea at the Doha Four Seasons Hotel, where Hadi works, to tell them about our visit.
On arriving at the hotel, I was hard pressed to stop my jaw from dropping at every turn. The temperature was 47 degrees that day, so the hotel was a real oasis.
On the way in.
Shedding some light on the subject.

Even the cushions on the chairs were squeezed into matching shapes.

Elias had ordered “some afternoon tea”. When it arrived, it took four waiters two trips each to bring it.

Hadi (who works at this hotel) and Abdullah arrived a bit later to help us to eat all this, but there was still some left over when we left – the most delightful Arabian cakes and sweets. Elias and Hadi wanted to hear all about our trip to Syria, and then everyone gave us advice on what to do in Dubai, where we’re going next, on our way home.
Hadi is getting married in July to a pretty girl (we saw her picture) who lives in Damascus. We wish them all the best. Thank you Elias for your company, and this unforgettable afternoon tea.
