Bordeaux 7: Living it up!

Tuesday 11th February 2020.

Inspired by Stuart's gourmet breakfast of Vegemite on toast, we decided to go to the fanciest place in town for lunch.

So we took ourselves off to the Intercontinental (well, just the bar section, not the Gordon Ramsay restaurant).

The bar was called L'Orangerie.  Behind Stuart was a cumquat tree with mandarins underneath it.  At least they were keeping to the citrus theme.

Stuart had a club sandwich and chips and I had a croque monsieur.  Oh, and drinks of course.

Our waitress Aurore had just spent some time in Brisbane as part of her study for a Master's in Hotel Management.  As part of her visa, she had to spend some time working on a banana farm near Cairns, which she said was "horrible."

Then we walked back through the busy streets.

My croque monsieur was delicious, but I could only eat half of it, so I asked if I could take the rest home.  Aurore seemed rather shocked by this request - I don't think it can be normal in France to ask for doggy bags, or just maybe not at the Intercontinental - but it was ok.  So even with a bit nibbled off one end, it did us both for breakfast the next day.
