On our way to Franz Josef Village, we made a detour to visit Lake Matheson, famed for its potential reflections of Mt Cook (NZ’s highest mountain) and Mt Tasman.
Lake Matheson is a few kilometres west of the township of Fox Glacier, which in turn is 23 kilometres south of Franz Josef Village.
The walk to the lake was very pretty and ferny:
Mossy bank.
When we arrived at the photography spot, there was a fair bit of cloud over the mountains, one of them in particular – I don’t know which one.
Here are my pictures of the reflections in the lake anyway:
Then, when we returned to the carpark, both peaks were visible (just). I didn’t dare suggest to Pat that we go back to the lake for another go!
Perfect photographs missed on 18th April 2012.
